Organic Acids Testing (OAT) 101

Speakers

Dr. Dan Kalish

November 18, 2026
3 PM EST

This webinar explores Organic Acids Testing (OAT) through a practical framework for clinicians at both introductory and experienced levels. Dr. Dan Kalish will organize OAT markers into four functional categories (mitochondrial function and energy production, neurotransmitter metabolites, detoxification-related pathways, and GI/microbial markers) to provide a structured approach to reviewing results.

The session will also explore the origins of organic acid testing and how OAT findings may be considered alongside genomic and other clinical information. Through biochemical pathway review and case examples, attendees will see how the four-category framework can be applied to organize, interpret, and contextualize OAT findings in clinical practice. No prior OAT experience is required, although familiarity with basic biochemistry and nutrient cofactors may be helpful.

After this session, attendees should be better able to organize and contextualize OAT findings, recognize patterns that may warrant further clinical consideration, and understand how metabolomic findings may be evaluated alongside genomic information.

Key takeaways

  • Learn a four-category framework for organizing OAT markers across mitochondrial function, neurotransmitter metabolites, detoxification-related pathways, and GI/microbial markers.
  • Explore Dr. Kalish’s framework connecting inflammation, catabolic physiology, insulin resistance, and oxidative stress, and how related OAT markers may inform clinical assessment.
  • Discuss how organic acid findings may be considered alongside genomic, proteomic, and other clinical information.
  • Apply the four-category framework to case examples and sample patient results.
